Violence in Trenton, NJ

with 2 comments

The violence in my hometown has gotten completely out of hand as I grew up. The streets are nowhere as safe as they use to be. Local residents have to fear for their lives because some lethal individuals have a shoot out in broad daylight while families are out. No one wants their kids outside because they are afraid anything can happen to them. So what can we do about the violence in our local neighborhoods?

Do we keep calling the police hoping something would change? Or do we take actions in our own hands? We are mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, and friends burying our family as the days go on. Where do we drawl the line and say that’s enough? Where do we all come together as a community? As a family? I’m sure we all lost a loved one. We “The Community” should take that hurt and pain and grow from it. Let the pain and hurt teach you to love.

Love is whats going to save us. Love is going to stop our brothers, our sisters, our nieces, our nephews, our mothers, our fathers, our aunts, our uncles, and our friends from dying. We are going to save lives. If we come together as one and realize that we are all family and no one deserve this pain, then all will be well. Until we stand up for each other, violence in our community is going to continue to happen. Our families are going to keep going through the cycle of the hurt and pain. We have to put a end to this. We need to stop this NOW.

Is this what the world has come to? Selfishness? Do we really have no sense of caring for strangers? When someone hurts another person, that’s obviously a cry for help. You don’t solve violence with violence. Violence plus violence equals war. If that stranger kills your brother, you seek revenge and kill him, his brother comes back to seek revenge and kill you, your family goes to seek revenge on his family. Where does the blood trail stop? When everyone in that person family and your family is dead? Trenton has nineteen homicides this year. Is that going to be it? Can we make a difference right now?

I think we have a chance. Only if we all come together. We can come up with ideas as a community to figure out different ways to make our community more safe. Some of my suggestions would be more officers around local neighborhoods, we can come up with a community safe watch program, and we can speak to everyone in the community to try and get them to be proactive with our city organization. What are some your suggestions? I would love to hear what are some of your opinions on how we can make our community safe.
